Job Description
SmarterX is seeking an exceptional and visionary Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) to lead our scientific strategy, research, and development efforts. This pivotal leadership role requires a scientific luminary with a proven track record of innovation, strategic thinking, and the ability to translate groundbreaking scientific discoveries into commercially viable healthcare solutions within a fast-paced, tech-startup environment. The CSO will be instrumental in shaping our scientific roadmap, fostering a culture of scientific excellence, and driving the development of our next-generation AI-powered healthcare platforms. This position offers significant equity participation, reflecting its critical importance to the company’s future success.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the overall scientific strategy, aligning it with company vision and business objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and expand a high-performing team of scientists, researchers, and data professionals.
- Oversee all R&D activities, from fundamental research to clinical validation and product development.
- Identify, evaluate, and integrate novel scientific advancements and technologies into SmarterX's platforms.
- Establish and maintain strategic collaborations with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners.
- Represent SmarterX as a scientific thought leader at conferences, investor meetings, and industry events.
- Ensure scientific integrity, ethical standards, and regulatory compliance across all research activities.
- Drive the intellectual property strategy, securing patents and publications for key innovations.
- Actively participate in fundraising efforts, articulating SmarterX's scientific vision and achievements to potential investors.
Required Skills
- PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science with a focus on AI/ML in healthcare).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in scientific research and development, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Demonstrated success in leading R&D teams in a fast-paced startup or high-growth tech environment.
- Deep expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and their applications in healthcare or life sciences.
- Strong understanding of clinical research, regulatory pathways (e.g., FDA), and intellectual property management.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain top scientific talent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral experience in a relevant field.
- Prior experience in a Chief Scientific Officer or similar executive scientific leadership role within a venture-backed startup.
- Track record of successfully bringing novel scientific discoveries from concept to commercialization.
- Experience with fundraising and investor relations in the tech or biotech sectors.
