Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated IV Certified Pharmacy Technician with expertise in sterile compounding to join our dedicated pharmacy team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the accurate and aseptic preparation of a wide range of sterile products, including IV admixtures, chemotherapy, and other parenteral medications, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and quality. This position offers a top pay rate for experienced professionals committed to excellence in pharmaceutical care within a fast-paced hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare sterile intravenous admixtures, chemotherapy, and other sterile products using aseptic technique in compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 guidelines.
  • Operate and maintain pharmacy equipment, including automated compounding devices, according to established procedures.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the sterile compounding cleanroom and primary engineering controls.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on compounded preparations to ensure accuracy, sterility, and integrity.
  • Maintain accurate records of all compounding activities, including ingredients, batch numbers, and expiration dates.
  • Assist pharmacists with medication dispensing, inventory management, and ordering of supplies for sterile compounding.
  • Adhere strictly to all state and federal regulations, as well as hospital policies and procedures regarding sterile compounding and medication safety.
  • Participate in continuing education and training relevant to sterile compounding and pharmacy technician practice.

Required Skills

  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification (PTCB or NHA).
  • Current IV certification or demonstrable extensive training/experience in sterile compounding.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an IV sterile compounding environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of USP 797 and USP 800 guidelines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in medication preparation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience with pharmacy automation systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell) and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Previous experience in a hospital or health system pharmacy setting.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy technician program.
