Job Description

Principal Financial Group is seeking an organized and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Part-Time Afternoon Shift Receptionist at our Des Moines headquarters. This vital role ensures a welcoming and efficient front office experience for our guests, clients, and employees. You will be the first point of contact, providing exceptional service and administrative support during our busiest afternoon hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome visitors with a professional and friendly demeanor.
  • Answer, screen, and forward incoming phone calls, taking accurate messages when necessary.
  • Manage the reception area, ensuring it remains tidy and presentable.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute daily mail and deliveries.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments and managing meeting room bookings.
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support, including data entry and filing.
  • Maintain security by following procedures and controlling access (monitoring logbook, issuing visitor badges).
  • Handle basic inquiries and provide accurate information.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Professional appearance and attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a receptionist or in a customer service role (6+ months preferred).
  • Familiarity with multi-line phone systems.
  • Associate's degree or some college coursework.
  • Experience in a corporate or financial services environment.
